Located in New Westminster, British Columbia, the work of Tony Durke captures the vibrancy and intensity of modern life, drawing inspiration from the decaying urban landscape and the complex human actions surrounding us. While my art is abstract, I weave historical and topical narratives through simple shapes and colours, with salvaged wood playing a vital role in each piece. I transitioned from canvas to wood 15 years ago, often embarking on adventures to find unique pieces that tell their own stories. Each artwork is meticulously crafted, combining carved lines with rich colours and solid black oil paint, reflecting my political views and personal experiences. My hope is to evoke emotion through the beauty of abstract colour and the natural character of carved wood, celebrating the stories they hold.
