NONIA, established in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, in 1920, is a non-profit social enterprise specialising in Canadian-made handknitted garments. Originally founded to support outport health services, it now focuses solely on its industrial side. Approximately 140 knitters across Newfoundland create NONIA’s renowned sweaters, socks, hats, and mitts, using traditional techniques. Managed by a volunteer board, they operate a retail location in St. John’s, offering a range of handknitted products. NONIA continues its tradition of providing high-quality, Canadian-made knitwear, supporting local artisans and preserving Newfoundland’s knitting heritage.
