As a first-year Dalhousie University Commerce student, entrepreneur Jaime Landry founded Black Harbour Distillers, or “BHD,” in 2018. She started a business that closely engaged with the local community and provided locally crafted blended spirits because she wanted to follow her aspirations. Jaime wanted to eventually provide a complete selection of blended spirits that were ready to mix as well as cocktail drinks. As a result, Jaime embarked on a journey that frequently felt unattainable, learning about consumer preferences, industry trends, and legal licence needs for distillation. Jaime, however, was welcomed with openness and cooperation at all levels of government. Jaime used knowledgeable and dependable advisors to lay the groundwork early on and she will continue to do so going forward.
