David Stepan is fascinated by the properties of materials and enjoys exploring them. From hammered copper’s warmth and immediacy to the unique grains of wood and the way materials capture time and place. He crosses the barriers between art, service, and décor, making products that transcend their purpose, using his Bachelor of Fine Arts training and decades of expertise as a bespoke furniture designer maker. His enthusiasm has shifted to a more immediate manifestation of his fascination with materials. Particularly how products made from sustainably sourced materials can look and feel beautiful while still telling a narrative. With his wife Jody, he recently relocated from Ontario to Nova Scotia, where they are converting a derelict early 1900’s feedstore into their home and studios.
