The family at the Maplewood Farm manages its woodlot with a focus on wildlife. The woodlot’s diversity of species, ages, and overall structural complexity serves as a shelter for a variety of wildlife, including predatory birds. White-tailed deer, Spruce grouse, and other wildlife and birds are objects of interest and enjoyment for the Veinot family, their friends, and their neighbours. The production of Christmas trees (40 acres), a maple syrup plant with over 3,400 taps, and the selling of wood products such softwood and hardwood sawlogs, pulpwood, and fuel wood provide the majority of the region’s income.
