Located in Whitehorse, Yukon, Simone Rudge and Wendy Bushell were inspired by the farmers’ markets they visited while travelling through Alberta and began organizing weekly markets at Takhini Gas on Mayo Road in 2000. By 2005, the Fireweed Community Market was officially established as a non-profit and relocated downtown, first to the parking lot at Shipyards Park and then to the park itself. Over the years, the market has served as an incubator for local producers, allowing them to test their products and build a customer base before transitioning to brick-and-mortar locations, becoming a vital part of Whitehorse’s social, economic, and cultural landscape.
